Gary grew up in Belfast and attended Rangiora High School. In 1983 he and his wife Robyn settled in Rangiora and recently moved to Fernside. Outside of work, Gary is on the executive of the Saracens RFC and is the manager of the clubs Division 1 side. He is also a life member of the Southbrook Cricket Club and a past chairman of the Southbrook Sports Club.
